1. Highlights of Union Budget 2019-20

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman made her maiden Budget Speech and presented the Union Budget 2019-20 in the Lok Sabha. She broke away from the tradition when she replaced the conventional leather briefcase with a bright red cloth bag to carry the Budget papers to the Parliament House. “Gaon, Garib and Kisan” (Village, Poor, and Farmer) was the center of all policies of the Modi 2.0 Government.

2. UNESCO releases State of the Education Report for India 2019 in New Delhi

The first 2019 report of “State of the Education Report for India 2019: Children with Disabilities” has released by the UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) at an event in New Delhi. The Report, which will be an annual publication, highlights accomplishments and challenges with regards to the right to education of children with disabilities (CWDs).

3. The sanitation coverage in the rural areas jumped to 99% from 38% in 2014: Jal Shakti ministry

The government today said, under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), nine crores 62 lakh individual household toilets have been constructed so far. In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Jal Shakti Rattan Lal Kataria said, the sanitation coverage in the rural areas of the country has increased to more than 99 percent, which was over 38 percent on 2nd October 2014.

4. India to get the first e-Vehicle Charging Highway by March 2020

India's first highway corridors with charging stations for electric vehicles are expected to come up along the Delhi-Jaipur and Delhi-Agra highways by 2020, an official said. The combined stretch of the corridors on the Yamuna Expressway (between Delhi and Agra) and the National Highway 48 (between Delhi and Jaipur) will be 500 km, and 18 charging stations will be set up near toll plazas on the two routes, the official said.

5. The Indian Army releases special tribute video to commemorate 20 years of ‘Operation Vijay’

A special video featuring an original tribute song celebrating the valor and sacrifices of soldiers and officers who took part in the Kargil war, was Friday launched here by Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat to commemorate 20 years of the conflict. Dedicated to Kargil heroes, the video features Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Olympic medallist boxer Mary Kom, actors Salman Khan, Anupam Kher, Kangana Ranaut, Suniel Shetty, and Vicky Kaushal of 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' fame.

6. Hong Kong Govt donates over $9 million to cyclone” Fani”-hit Odisha

The Hong Kong government has approved over $900,000 for relief and rehabilitation work in cyclone-hit Odisha that could benefit around 45,100 victims, China's official media reported on Friday. 'Very severe cyclonic storm' Fani battered Odisha in May and killed 64 people and damaged more than five lakh dwelling units in the state's coastal districts.

7. RBI gets the power to regulate housing finance companies instead of NHB

The government has taken away the powers of the National Housing Bank (NHB) to regulate housing finance companies (HFCs) and handed them to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Act will be amended to give the RBI powers to regulate the HFC sector.

8. Elavenil Valarivan clinched women’s 10m Air Rifle silver medal in the 30th Summer Universiade Games 2019

Elavenil Valarivan(19), a three-time junior World Cup medallist strikes her silver medal in 10m Air Rifle event in the 30th World University Summer Games 2019 held in Napoli, Italy. After qualifying at the top with a University record of 630.8 finished ahead of Lin Ying-Shin (629.8) and Lucie Brazdova (628.1), the Tamilnadu shooter(Elavenil) shot 249.0 in the final and was beaten by 1.3 points by Lucie Brazdova (Czech Republic).  She will be next participating in ISSF(International Shooting Sport Federation) Junior World Cup 2019, Suhl which is scheduled to start from July 12, 2019.
