OBrien as next national security adviser Trump appoints 

US President Donald Trump has appointed Robert O'Brien as the new national security adviser. He will replace John Bolton. He will Mr.Trump's fourth national security adviser. He currently heads hostage negotiations at the State Department. It is believed that Mr.O'Brien is the highest-ranking Mormon member of the Trump administration.


Robert O'Brien:
  • Robert O'Brien has a long career in foreign policy working for both main US parties. The trained lawyer has served in various government roles. 
  • When he served as a special presidential envoy for hostage affairs, he has worked with families of US hostages and advises on related issues, including recovery policies. 
  • He was appointed to serve as a representative to the UN General Assembly in 2005. He has also served for the former secretaries of state Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton.
