EPFO launches e-nomination facility for your PF account

The Employees Provident Fund Organization EPFO started online e-nomination facility on its website. Filing e-nomination helps you to easily file online pension claim at the required time. The nominees can easily file online composite claim in the event of demise of the EPFO member if the e-nomination has been done.

Central Railway recovers 7.88 crore fine from ticketless travellers in Pune

The Pune division of the Central Railway recovered ₹7.88 crore fine from passengers travelling without tickets in last five months. The rail division conducted a drive from April to August to identify ticket-less travellers on Pune-Malawli, Pune-Miraj, Pune-Baramati and Kolhapur-Miraj routes.

Key highlights:
  • During the drive, it detected around 1.53 lakh cases of various offences, including not possessing ticket while in train or on railway platform and carrying luggage beyond permissible limit.

Union Minister Gehlot launches MIS portal under Accessible India Campaign

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot launched the Management Information System (MIS) portal for stakeholders of the Accessible India Campaign (AIC). The Fully accessible for divyangjans.

Four new Supreme Court judges appointed

 Four new judges were appointed to the Supreme Court. The judge's strength in the top court is 34. The new judges are Haryana High Court Chief Justice Krishna Murari, Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice V. Ramasubramanian, Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice S Ravindra Bhat and Kerala High Court Chief Justice Hrishikesh Roy.

Telangana to celebrate 2020 as Year of Artificial Intelligence

The Telangana government decided to celebrate the year of 2020 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence. The backdrop of the emerging talent pool and renewed focus by industry and other ecosystem players on this space in the last four to five years. The Nasscom announced the setting up of a Centre of Excellence in AI and Data Sciences in Hyderabad. In addition, IIT-Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) selected Hyderabad as the place to set up their regional centre to train students in AI in partnership with the State government.

Google to launch AI Research Lab in Bengaluru

Google Pay has grown more than three times to 67 million monthly active users, driving transactions worth over $110 billion on an annualized basis across offline and online merchants. The two-thirds of the transactions are coming from tier-II and -III cities and towns. Google Pay competes with players like Paytm and PhonePe is introducing the Spot platform that will enable merchants to create branded commercial experiences and reach new customers.

SITMEX 19 commenced at Port Blair

SITMEX-19 (Singapore India Thailand Maritime Exercise) Trilateral Exercise has commenced from 18 September 2019 at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The five-day-long naval exercise is held between the Indian Navy (IN), Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), and Royal Thai Navy (RTN).

Aim:

SITMEX-19 exercise aims to enhance maritime interoperability between the participating navies. It also aims to provide experience sharing of best practices. RBI restricted access to credit data of consumers

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked the banks and non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) to restrict access to consumers' credit data on 16 September. The move aims to impact the business model of fintech companies. The Central bank has asked the banks and NBFCs to implement the measures in 15 days.

UK returned the stolen bronze image of Buddha

London police returned the 12th Century AD Bronze image of Buddha which was stolen from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Museum at Nalanda in 1961 to the Indian High Commission. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman handed over the statue to the Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel.

The bronze image of Buddha:
  • The 12th Century AD Bronze image of Buddha seated in the Bhumipasara mudra was stolen by the British in August 1961. The art was influenced by Buddhism. It was amongst the 19 bronze statues stolen from ASI Nalanda site museum. 
  • In 2018, the statue was spotted by the India Pride Project, an online volunteer group of an Art enthusiast, at an auction organized by a London based dealer. International Council of Museums (ICOM) inspected the image and confirmed that it was the one stolen from Nalanda museum...read more
