1. High-Level Steering Committee set up by the Govt proposes to establish a National Digital Health Mission

A high-level committee formed by the government has proposed setting up of a National Digital Health Mission. The report of the committee entitled 'National Digital Health Blueprint' was released by Health Minister Dr Harshavardhan in New Delhi today. Both the Centre and state governments will be the owners and stakeholders in the new organisation. A combination of GST-N and UIDAI models of the institutional structure has been proposed. The proposal has been put in the public domain for suggestions from all stakeholders, including common people.

2. AIIMS along with Ministry of Health will lead largest pan-India Oral Health Survey 2019

3. Kerala Government to set up India’s First-ever Elephant Rehabilitation at Rs 105 cr

The centre, expected to have an elephant museum, mahout training centre, super-specialty hospital, a retirement home and crematorium for the animals, will house orphaned, injured and older elephants. It is being planned on the lines of the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka. The Kerala government is working to set up the country’s first elephant rehabilitation centre in Kottoor, an ecotourism village near the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. The first phase of the Rs 105 crore-project was launched last month by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

4. The city of Fuzhou (China) will host the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee in 2020

During this year’s session, the World Heritage Committee inscribed a total of 29 new sites on the World Heritage List (one in Africa, two in the Arab States, ten in the Asia Pacific region, 15 in Europe and North America and one in Latin America). The Committee approved the removal from the List of World Heritage in Danger of the sites of Humberstone and Santa Laura Saltpeter Works (Chile) and Birthplace of Jesus: the Church of the Nativity and Pilgrimage Route, Bethlehem (Palestine). One property has been added to the List of World Heritage in Danger: the Islands and Protected Areas of the Gulf of California (Mexico).

5. Indian ship sails for Narayanganj in Bangladesh carrying cargo from Bhutan

Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya Friday flagged off a vessel, carrying stone from Bhutan to deliver in Bangladesh, using Indian waterway channel, as per an official release. This is the first time an Indian waterway is being used as a channel for transport of cargo between two countries, using India for transit, the release said. Minister of State for Shipping (Independent Charge) and Chemical and Fertilisers Mansukh Mandaviya digitally flag off an inland waterways vessel carrying stone from Bhutan to Bangladesh via River Brahmaputra (NW 2), the shipping ministry said in the release.

6. Shah Rukh Khan to be conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by Melbourne’s La Trobe University

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is set to receive an honorary doctorate degree from Melbourne-based La Trobe University for his contributions and efforts towards underprivileged children, women's empowerment through Meer Foundation and his achievements in the Indian entertainment industry. Khan, who will be visiting Australia to attend the 10th edition of Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) next month as its chief guest, said having his humanitarian endeavours recognised for the first time by the country was a great honour.

7. Senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra appointed Himachal Governor & Acharya Devvrat moved to Gujarat

Senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra was on July 15 appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, replacing Acharya Devvrat, who has been transferred and appointed as the Governor of Gujarat. A Rashtrapati Bhavan press communique said the appointments of Mr. Mishra and Mr. Devvrat will come into effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices. Mr. Mishra (78) had resigned from the Narendra Modi-led government as Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in 2017 after he crossed the age of 75, the BJP’s unofficial age limit for holding an elected post.

8. India’s ambitious moon mission, Chandrayaan-2 called off due to technical glitch

The launch of India’s second moon mission, Chandrayaan-2, was called off on Monday, after Indian Space Research Orgamisation (Isro) identified a technical snag in the country's heaviest rocket, GSLV Mk-III, nicknamed Baahubali. While the last-minute call-off by Isro spurred discussions on the GSLV's capability, considering that this will be the launch vehicle for India's Human Space Programme, it is important to note that Chandrayaan-2 is not a failed launch. The launch was delayed in order to avoid failure, and that such things are common globally, say experts.

9. First-ever image of quantum entanglement “Bell entanglement” unveiled by the physicists of Glasgow University

Two particles which interact with each other — like two photons passing through a beam splitter, for example — can sometimes remain connected, instantaneously sharing their physical states no matter how great the distance which separates them. This connection is known as quantum entanglement, and is part of the branch of physics called quantum mechanics, a description of the way the world works at the level of atoms and particles that are even smaller. Quantum mechanics says that at these very tiny scales, some properties of particles are based entirely on probability. In other words, nothing is certain until it happens.

10. ICC Men’s World Cup 2019

The 12th edition of the world's biggest cricketing event, the ICC Men's cricket World Cup 2019, will be played in England and Wales starting May 30. The first match of ICC cricket World Cup 2019 will be played between hosts England and South Africa on May 30. The ICC World Cup 2019 final is expected to be a grand event, especially as it will be played at Lord’s cricket ground in London on July 14. The hosting rights to England and Wales were awarded in April 2006 after they withdrew from candidature to host the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, which was subsequently hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The ICC Cricket World Cup is the international championship of One Day International (ODI) cricket (50-over cricket) organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) every four years.

11. Hima Das bagged her 3rd international gold within two weeks at the Kladno Memorial Athletics Meet 2019 in Czech Republic

Hima Das is on a golden run and won her 3rd medal. Mohammad Anas bettered his own national record in men's 400m race to bag a gold while Hima Das won the women's 200m event for her third international triumph in 11 days at the Kladno Memorial Athletics Meet at Kladno, Czech Republic on Saturday. The 24-year-old Anas clocked 45.21 as he won an easy race, finishing nearly one second ahead of silver winner Omelko Rafal (46.19) of Poland. Anas' earlier national record time stood at 45.24 seconds which he recorded last year.
