About the Coffin:
  • The wooden coffin was covered in gold. It was made in Egypt between approximately 150 and 50 BC. On the coffin, Nedjemankh's name was inscribed. Nedjemankh was a high-ranking first century BC priest. This coffin was  buried in Egypt for more than 2,000 years and it was looted in the year 2011.
  • In 2017, the Metropolitan Museum of Art purchased the coffin for around $4 million. The coffin was kept for view until February 2019. The Manhattan District Attorney's office recovered the gilded Coffin of Nedjemankh.
