Dept. of Agriculture released First Advance Estimates of production of major Kharif crops Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare have released the First Advance Estimates of production of major Kharif crops for 2019-20 on 23 September. The production of different crops is assessed on the basis of the feedback received from the States. The received information was checked against the information from other sources. Highlights: ♦ The cumulative rainfall in 2019 from the southwest monsoon season upto mid-September has been 4% higher than Long Period Average (LPA). ♦ The agricultural year 2019-20 has been estimated higher than their normal production. These estimates would be revised based on further feedback from the states. ♦ For the year 2019-20, the total production of Kharif rice was estimated at 100.35 million tonnes. It has been increased by 6.80 million tonnes than the five years’ average production of 93.55 million tonnes. ♦ The estimated Production of Kharif Nutri/coarse cereals is 32.00 million tonnes. It has been increased by 1.01 million tonnes than the production of 30.99 million tonnes achieved during 2018-19. ♦ The estimated total Kharif pulses production during 2019-20 is at 8.23 million tonnes. It has been increased to 1.00 million tones than the five years’ average production of 7.23 million tonnes. ♦ Estimated production of sugarcane in the country during 2019-20 is 377.77 million tonnes. The production rate of sugarcane in the year 2019-2020 is 349.78 million tonnes.
