2. India’s First Smart School Campus in Pune to be launched by Singapore’s GIIS
The Singapore-headquartered Global Indian International School (GIIS) Wednesday said it will launch India's first SMART campus in Pune as part of its Rs 420 crore investments in education in India over the coming years. GIIS said the concept of an international award-winning SMART Campus, launched in Singapore in 2018, will be implemented at Hadapsar and Balewadi campuses with the aim of providing students with NextGen learning to hone 21st century skills.
3. Lucknow to host Asia’s biggest arm show ‘DefExpo’ in February 2020
The next edition of India's mega defence exhibition -- the DefExpo -- will be held in Lucknow from February 5-8 next year with the participation of major global and domestic military firms, the Defence Ministry announced on Sunday. It will be the first time that Lucknow will host the exhibition in which delegates of a number of leading countries will participate. The theme of the DefExpo will be "India: the emerging defence manufacturing hub" and it will be focussed on "digital transformation of defence", the ministry said.

5. Indian Navy commissions fifth Dornier Aircraft Squadron in Chennai
The Indian Navy on Monday commissioned its new Dornier Aircraft Squadron in Chennai on Monday, aimed at better surveillance. The new air squadron was scheduled by Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff at the Naval Air Enclave, Meenambakkam, Indian Navy said. The fifth Dornier squadron will help India track of the growing Chinese presence in the Indian Ocean Region. The need was felt to create an operational air base at Chennai to enable better surveillance in the region, Adm Karambir Singh said during his address.
6. India will be the first recipient of AIIB local currency funding
India is set to be the first recipient of local currency financing by the Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank (AIIB), a senior official said. “India will be the first recipient,” AIIB chief investment officer DJ Pandian told ET. AIIB president Jin Liqun had on Friday announced the bank’s intention to roll out local currency financing to provide more options to borrowers. The bank’s treasury has begun work on it and the swap mechanism is in place, so it would be easy to carry it out in India, Pandian said. “We are pushing for it,” he said on the sidelines of the AIIB annual meeting in Luxembourg.
7. World Bank to continue the support to Andhra Pradesh with over $1 Billion programme
The World Bank, which has dropped a loan proposal for Amaravati project, Sunday said it continues to support Andhra Pradesh with an over one billion USD programme that covers the health, agriculture, energy and disaster management sectors. This includes a new $328 million support to the state's health sector, signed with the Andhra Pradesh government on June 27, 2019, the bank said in a release. "As the new government sets its development priorities, we stand ready to provide whatever support the state and the Government of India might request," it added.
8. Standard Chartered is all set to be the first foreign bank to initiate operations at GIFT IFSC
The GIFT City Thursday said UK-based Standard Chartered will be the first foreign bank to launch operations at International Financial Services Centre (IFSC). Standard Chartered has received in-principle regulatory approvals to set up its IFSC Banking Unit (IBU) in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), it said in a release. The UK-based lender is expected to start operations at IFSC by the end of this year, a GIFT City spokesperson said. Two mines of the Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys (IMFA) received top honours at the 21st Mines Environment & Mineral Conservation (MEMC) week held here. It is a Rs 978-crore project. She won five gold medals -- 100 metres(m), 200m, 400m, 400 m hurdles and the 4x400 m relay -- besides a bronze in the Asian Games which were held at Jakarta in 1985 . “We are delighted that you have been nominated by your Area Association as a recipient of the IAAF Veteran Pin for your long and meritorious service to the cause of World Athletics,” the IAAF CEO Jon Ridgeon informed Usha in a letter.
