1. MHA launched ‘Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C)’ for 2018-2020

MHA has rolled out a scheme ‘Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C)’ for the period 2018-2020, to combat cyber crime in the country, in a coordinated and effective manner. The scheme has following seven components:
  1. National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit.
  2. National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
  3. Platform for Joint Cybercrime Investigation Team.
  4. National Cybercrime Forensic Laboratory Ecosystem.
  5. National Cybercrime Training Centre.
  6. Cybercrime Ecosystem Management Unit.
  7. National Cyber Research and Innovation Centre.
The Central Government has launched Cybercrime Reporting Portal to enable citizens to report online content pertaining to Child Pornography (CP)/ Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) or sexually explicit content such as Rape/Gang Rape (CP/RGR).

2. Deeksharambh, a UGC Guide to Student Induction Programme released by HRD

The Union Minister of HRD, Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', on Thursday, July 18, 2019, released a guide to Student Induction Programme, Deeksharambh, to help new students adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment, help them inculcate the ethos and culture of the institution, help them build bonds with other students and faculty members, and expose them to a sense of larger purpose and self-exploration. Ahead of the beginning of the regular classes, officials will be engaging with the new students to make them feel comfortable in the institution.

3. R K Singh reviews first-ever Draft Plan for Power Distribution Sector prepared by CEA

Shri RK Singh, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy (IC) and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship reviewed the Draft Distribution Perspective Plan for power sector in India here today. The draft plan is the first ever plan at Distribution level which has been prepared by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) under the guidance of the Ministry of Power.

4. Under PMRPY, 1.18 crore Employees benefited

Around 1.5 crore workers have benefitted from the Pradhanmantri Rozgar Protsahan Yojna (PMRPY), which incentivise employers for generating jobs, Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar said Friday.  The government has spent Rs 3,648 crore under the programme so far, the minister said.  The PMRPY has been designed to incentivise employers for new employment generation, where the government pays full employer's contribution towards social security schemes run by retirement fund body EPFO.

5. India to be free of Tuberculosis by 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called upon BJP MPs to take up public work in their constituencies and not just focus on politics. The Prime Minister was addressing party MPs in the Parliament Library Building. Briefing the media after meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said, the Prime Minister told parliamentarians that they should take up a social cause or an issue of human sensitivity as a mission apart from carrying out their duties as members of Parliament.

6. Tamil Nadu Govt announces the creation of two new Districts

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday announced the creation of two new districts carved out from Kanchipuram and Tirunelveli. This will take the total number of districts in the State to 35. While Chengalpattu will be hived off from Kanchipuram to become a district headquarter; Tenkasi will be split from Tirunelveli to become a new district. So far three new districts have been created by the government.

7. INS Sagardhwani starts on mission Sagar Maitri

Marine Acoustic Research Ship (MARS), INS Sagardhwan started its two-month-long second mission Sagar Maitri from Southern Naval Command in Kochi, Kerala. It flagged off by Southern Naval commander Vice Admiral A.K. Chawla and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chairman G. Satheesh Reddy. The main visit of  Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia would be initiating collaborative research programmes. Their focus on the Andaman Sea and adjoining seas and establish long term collaboration with Indian Ocean Ring countries in the field of ‘Ocean Research and Development’.

8. Sri Lanka & IRCON International Ltd signed $91.26 mn agreement to upgrade rail track located between Colombo and Jaffna

Sri Lankan government today signed an agreement with IRCON International for upgrading of a railway track with Indian concessional financing of around 91.26 million US dollars. The agreement is for up gradation of over century old track of 130 km located between Colombo and Jaffna in Tamil -majority northern province. The contract agreement was signed by Sunil Kumar Choudhury, Chairman & Managing Director, IRCON International Limited, and L.P.Jayampathy, Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation of Sri Lanka.

9. WHO declares Congo Ebola outbreak a Health emergency of International Concern

The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo a "public health emergency of international concern". The move may encourage wealthy donor countries to provide more cash. But the WHO stopped short of saying borders should be closed, saying the risk of the disease spreading outside the region was not high. The outbreak in DR Congo has killed more than 1,600 people. This week, the first case was detected in Goma, home to more than a million. The PHEIC emergency provision is the highest level of alarm the WHO can sound and has only been used four times previously.

10. ADB lowers India’s FY2020 GDP growth forecast to 7%

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has pared its Indian growth forecast for 2019-20 to 7% from 7.2% estimated earlier. This is in line with the estimates by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as well as the chief economic adviser in the finance ministry Krishnamurthy Subramanian. This mainly reflects “the unexpectedly weak FY2018 outturn", ADB said in its supplement to the Asian Development Outlook released on Thursday.

11. Andhra Bank rolls-out Al chatbot “ABHi” in Telangana

Andhra Bank launched its AI(Artificial Intelligence) interactive assistant called “ABHi” at a function in Hyderabad, Telangana. It uses new-age technologies include to understand the customer query. They fetch the relevant information from the possible knowledge base in a matter of milliseconds. ABHi is powered by AI startup Floatbot.ai (Bangalore). They are in partnership with IT(Information Technology) company Netxcell Limited(Hyderabad).

12. India’s current account balance deficit shoots up to $68 billion in 2018-19: IMF

India's current account (CA) balance deficit grew to $68 billion in 2018-19 from $49 billion the previous year, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which said the deficit was justified by development needs. The External Sector Report of the IMF released on Wednesday by Chief Economist Gita Gopinath also found that India's Net International Investment Position had slightly improved with the deficit coming down from $438 billion in 2017-18 to $431 billion in 2018-19.
