1. Cabinet approved a hike in rates of scholarship under National Defence Fund

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated his first decision after taking over to those who protect the country. Mr. Modi has approved major changes in the Prime Minister's scholarship scheme under the National Defence Fund. He has enhanced rates of scholarship from 2000 rupees per month to 2500 rupees per month for boys and from 2250 rupees per month to  3000 rupees per month for girls.

2. Cabinet approved Rs 3,000 pension for small traders

In its first meeting, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday decided to give monthly pension of Rs 3,000 to small traders, businessmen, and shopkeepers after they attain the age of 60 years. "The Union Cabinet has approved, in its effort to provide to universal social security, a new scheme which assures all shopkeepers, retail traders and self-employed persons a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 after attaining the age of 60 years," Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told media persons after the Cabinet meeting.

3. Cabinet approved the extension of PM-KISAN Yojana to all eligible farmers

In the first Cabinet meeting, the government Friday decided to extend PM- KISAN scheme to all 14.5 crore farmers in the country costing Rs 87,000 crore a year and also announced over Rs 10,000 crore pension scheme for 5 crore farmers, thereby fulfilling the BJP's poll promise. Announcing the two key decisions, new Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said the Modi 2.0 government has announced the landmark decisions for the farming community in the first Cabinet meeting.  "The Union Cabinet has approved to extend the ambit of the scheme by including all land holding eligible farmer families under the scheme, subject to the prevalent exclusion criteria," Tomar told reporters after the meeting.

4. Cabinet approved a new initiative to control FMD and Brucellosis to support livestock rearing farmers

During the Union Cabinet Meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, the first since the outcome of the 2019 Lok Sabha election, a novel initiative was cleared that will benefit crores of farmers and improve the health of animals. This initiative pertains to controlling Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis to support the livestock rearing farmers. The Cabinet had cleared a total outlay of Rs. 13,343 crores to fully control these diseases amongst the livestock in the country in the next five years and subsequently, eradicate these diseases.

5. Kasturirangan Committee submitted the draft National Education Policy to the new Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal

The Committee led by the Chairman Dr. Kasturirangan submitted the Draft National Educational Policy to the Union Human Resource Development Minister, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Minister of State for HRD, Shri Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre in New Delhi today in the presence of Shri R. Subrahmanyam, Secretary Department of Higher Education and Smt. Rina Ray, Secretary Department of School Education & Literacy and other senior officials of the Ministry.

6. India has 20 health workers per 10,000 people: NSSO study

India has 20.6 health workers per 10,000 people, a study based on the National Sample Survey Organisation reveals. While it is less than the World Health Organisation’s minimum threshold of 22.8, the numbers have increased from 19 health workers per 10000 people in 2012. “This is welcome news as the numbers have increased since 2012. This shows that we are moving in the right direction and the size of the health workforce is steadily improving,” says Dr. Himanshu Negandhi, Additional Professor at Indian Institute of Public Health, Delhi - Public Health Foundation of India.

8. Fitch certified long-term ratings to six banks at ‘BBB-‘ with a stable outlook

International rating agency Fitch Ratings affirmed long-term issuer default ratings (IDRs) of six banks including State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank at 'BBB-', with a stable outlook. The agency also affirmed BBB- the rating of Bank of Baroda (New Zealand), Canara Bank and Bank of India (BOI). The rating of IDBI Bank's long-term IDR was affirmed at 'BB+'. "The long-term IDRs of SBI, BOB, PNB, Canara and BOI are driven by an expectation that the banks are likely to receive extraordinary government support, if required, due to their high systemic importance and majority government ownership," the rating agency said in a note.

9. ADB and MIGA to expand Development Finance in Asia and Pacific to increase the flow of private sector investment

Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) agreed to expand Development Finance in Asia and Pacific to increase the flow of private sector investment. 10. CSO-GDP growth slips to 5.8% in Q4 in 2018-19

The economic growth rate for the full 2018-19 financial year stood at a 5-year low of 6.8% when compared with 7.1% The main reason behind the slip is the slowdown in the country's key sectors like agriculture, industry, and manufacturing in the past nine months. India's fiscal deficit in full 2018-19 stood at 3.4% of GDP. The revised target is around Rs 24.1 trillion.

11. KVB to form a venture with Centrum Wealth to provide wealth management services

Karur Vysya Bank Ltd. has entered into a pact with Centrum Wealth Management Ltd. (Centrum) to form a private limited joint venture (JV) to offer wealth management services to its clients. The private sector bank will hold 51% of the share capital of the JV, Centrum 45% and the balance by the JV’s staff. The board would comprise five directors of whom three would be from the bank. KVB does not hold any shares in Centrum, said the bank in a regulatory filing.

12. Under-20 Eurasian Athletics Championship: Indian juniors bagged 5 gold, 3 silver medals

India team won 5 gold and 3 silver medals. National teams from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, India, and Tajikistan participated in a 2-day event held on May 29-30, 2019. Sreekiran bagged the boys’ 800m gold with a time of 1:54.62 Rohit Yadav added the fifth gold medal to India’s tally finishing on top in the boys’ javelin throw by clearing a distance of 74.55m.

13. Global Day of Parents observed on June 1

The Global Day of Parents is observed on the 1st of June every year. The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2012 with resolution A/RES/66/292 and honors parents throughout the world. The Global Day provides an opportunity to appreciate all parents in all parts of the world for their selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship.
